NSW Election on March 24th

HOW TO VOTE IN THE STATE ELECTION

The Save Water Alliance has not issued directions on how best to vote to protect the Kangaloon Aquifer.  We have restricted our election interests to the single issue of the Aquifer.

All the candidates for Kiama and for Goulburn electorates were asked the same questions.  To read the original letter to the candidates for Kiama, click onto: Kiama Questions. (A similar letter was sent to Goulburn candidates).

The answers, where they were provided, are very clear.  You are entitled to assume that where candidates have chosen not to participated in our survey,  they have little interest in protecting the integrity of the Kangaloon Aquifer.

Please draw your own conclusions from the answers provided, and vote accordingly.

THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

The Save Water Alliance did not poll all the groups standing in the Legislative Council, but has reserved the right to publish statements from the two Parties (or Groups) in the Upper House contest which have volunteered a statement relating to the exploitation of the Kangaloon Aquifer.

These are the Climate Change Coalition, led by Patrice Newell; and The Greens, led by Lee Rhiannon.

Climate Change Coalition  (appearing as "Group F" on the ballot paper):

Q 1   Do you support the Kangaloon borefield project, in which water is being pumped from the Kangaloon Aquifer to the Nepean Dam to supply Sydney?

Answer:  Pumping water from the Kangaloon Aquifer for Sydney's water is one of the most silly ideas in the water debate.

Q 2   If you are elected on March 24th, will you take action to have the Kangaloon borefield project decommissioned?

Answer: Yes, I'll try and stop it.

Q 3   If you belong to a political party, has your leader/party made a policy statement on the Kangaloon borefield project?  If so, please attach that statement.

Answer:  I called for a Subsidence Management Plan to be issued by the Sydney catchment Authority. See: http://www.climatechangecoalition.com.au/Item-View.31.0.html?&cHash=199d208713&tx_ttnews[backPid]=85&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=23

SWA at the Robertson Show

Save Water Alliance volunteers will be manning a campaign booth at the Robertson Show on Friday March 9th and Saturday March 10th.  We thank the Robertson Agricultural & Horticultural Society Inc for the opportunity to be present.

As well as offering petitions to be signed against the Sydney Catchment Authority's pillaging of the local Aquifer, the SWA will be selling copies of the DVD "Save the Kangaloon Aquifer", (see the DVD on this website - go to Home page) SWA caps,  and the campaign T-shirts.

Come and find us at the Robbo show, and show your support for the campaign, and for the Robertson Show!  Donations will be accepted for campaign funds.

If you want to join the campaign, and have an hour to spare on Friday or Saturday, volunteer to help staff the stall: 0418 489 384. _____________________________________________________________________________________________

Robertson's Big Potato

"The Big Spud" is the icon of Robertson - once a prolific potato-growing area. Irrigation of potatoes depends upon ground-water supplies, threatened by the pumping of the Aquifer.

For details of the background of the above 'Big Spud' & 'Little Spud' artwork, and the story of Sydney Catchment Authority's blatant attempt to take advantage of the recent heavy rains, go to Denis Wilson's blog-site:  www.peonyden.blogspot.com/

Bowral Public Meeting

"SAVE THE SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS AQUIFER"

The Wingecarribee Shire Council and Save Water Alliance will jointly host a public meeting on the exploitation of the Southern Highlands Aquifer at Kangaloon.

Save Water Alliance believes that the Iemma Government’s proposal to “drought-proof” Sydney by drawing from the Kangaloon Aquifer risks the livelihoods of many who rely on surface water supplies, and threatens endangered plants and animals.

It is our contention that Sydney Catchment Authority has insufficient scientific research to determine the sustainability of continuous pumping that will deliver a relatively small supply to Sydney consumers.

Date: Saturday February 24th       Venue: Bowral Memorial Hall , Time:  6:00 – 8:00pm.

Entry to the Meeting is free of charge – a collection will be taken to cover costs.

Speakers: Phil Herd, Chairman Save Water Alliance

Mr Graeme Head, CEO Sydney Catchment Authority

Denis Wilson, Save Water Alliance; Robertson Naturalist

Jonathan Bell, Save Water Alliance, NSW Farmers Association

The second part of the meeting provides for opportunity for ratepayers’ questions. It will include opportunity for voters to question the available candidates for the State Parliamentary election on March 24th on the issue of the Kangaloon Aquifer

Robertson Public Meeting

The Save Water Alliance convenes a public protest meeting in Robertson for the purpose of advancing the campaign to protect the Kangaloon Aquifer. Other local groups and the public are invited to attend, to receive an account of the campaign so far, and be offered opportunities to join with us in protest against what has been described as environmental vandalism.

Date: Thursday February 1st

Time:  6:00pm

Venue: Robertson School of Arts

Chairman: Phillip Herd, President of the Save Water Alliance Incorporated, and East Kangaloon resident.
